Today we decided to visit the Canadian cemeteries, so we
drove back out to the area around the D-Day landing beaches. I have to say it was not as easy as we
expected it to be to find either cemetery.
Although there lots of signs for the American cemeteries, the same is
not true for the cemeteries for other Allied counties, but after some wrong
turns we eventually found both. The
cemeteries are well cared for, but the one at Cintheaux appears to received
more visitors and is also nicer than the one at Beny-sur –la-Mer, with nicer
landscaping and the stones themselves appear to be in better condition.
It was an experience to walk among the markers and read the
names, ages and regiments and think about the sacrifice these boys made as
volunteers.
