Day 5 – May 8th, 2013 – Paris

It seems I made a small miscalculation in my plan as today is Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) and tomorrow is Ascension Thursday and both are holidays in France so the roads were busy as were the sights.

We got up at an un-Godly hour this morning and were on the road to Paris as the sun rose.   Once arriving (3h30min drive) we checked into our hotel and set off on foot for the Eiffel Tower (a 20 minute walk) and then over to the Louvre (although we hopped a cab as it was raining and the walk was about an hour).

We walked through the museum and saw the Wedding at Cana and the Mona Lisa…I must say I never pictured the Wedding at Cana to be so big the size of the wall.  The Mona Lisa was nice to see but the looks I got were something else… I was let past the barriers and allowed to get much closer then other patrons who must have been crowded several deep (over 100 people).  LOL!

We had a lovely dinner at Axuria, this little French restaurant about a 10 minute walk from our hotel and I have to say it was delicious and really reasonably priced.  We had two wonderful fish dishes, mine was tuna, Peter’s was white (we couldn’t figure out the type) and for dessert I had a Grand Marnier Souffle and Peter had a chocolate mousse.  Both were heavenly!   And the cheque came to less than $75 Euro with beer for Peter.  Food is much more expensive here then in Normandy.  We would highly recommend trying this restaurant if you go to Paris.

Tomorrow were are going to try le Musee d’Orsay before heading back to Normandy… we’ll be unable to post until I find wifi that works…

Bonne nuit!
